Myanmar's Best Actor Gets Arrested By The Police For Supporting The Anti-Coup

JAKARTA - After the military coup in Myanmar took place, a wave of protests occurred from various elements of society, including from film actors in Myanmar. One of them, Lu Min.

Lu Min is a four-time Myanmar Academy Award-winning Burmese actor and director. He has served as Chair of the Myanmar Film Organization from 2014 to 2017. Throughout his successful career, he has acted in more than 1000 films to date.

Lu Min stood at the forefront of protesting against the Myanmar military. Then, the Myanmar Police arrested him on February 21. According to the actor's wife, the arrests took place hours after two people were killed when police and soldiers opened fire on protesters in the town of Mandalay.

His wife, Khin Sabai Oo, said in a video posted on her Facebook page that police had come to their home in Yangon and took him away.

"They forced open the door and took him away and did not tell me where they were taking him. I could not stop them. They did not tell me", she explained, quoted as saying by mmtimes.com, Thursday, March 11.

Lu Min was sentenced to two years in prison. Lu Min is known to have taken part in several protests in Yangon.

Apart from Lu Min, actor Pyay Ti Oo also rejected the military coup. He has won 4 best actor trophies.

Apart from being praised for his charming acting, Pyay Ti Oo is also known as a kind-hearted person. He founded the Pyay Ti Oo Foundation which aims to provide educational scholarships for poor students who wish to continue their studies in medical science.

Pyay was among the loudest in voicing his opinion about the Myanmar military coup. To the demonstrators, Pyay gave an encouraging message. "If we do not win this battle, our future, the future of our generation, the future of our children, will be lost", said Pyay Ti Oo, quoted from indiatimes.com.
