Dozens Of Drug Dealers In Serang Are Threatened With The Death Penalty

SERANG Throughout January 2024, the Serang Police, Banten arrested 18 drug dealers and hard drugs (pil koplo). From the hands of the perpetrators, the police secured 401.16 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 751 column pills of tramadol and hexymer types.

"Of the 18 suspects, 16 of them are couriers and methamphetamine dealers. Meanwhile, the other 2 suspects are koplo pill dealers," said Serang Police Chief AKBP Candra Sasongko in his statement, Thursday, February 1.

Candra said the dozens of perpetrators arrested received drugs from the Jakarta and Tangerang areas. Then they circulate to unknown people via Whastapp and Instagram messages.

For transactions, sellers and buyers do not know each other because transactions are carried out by telephone. Some even make transactions through WhatsApp or Instagram social media," he said.

The perpetrators were arrested in different locations, Lebak, Serang City, Serang Regency and Lebak Regency.

The perpetrators were secured at different places and times. For the location of the arrest, apart from the jurisdiction of the Serang Police, also in the areas of Serang City and Lebak Regency," he said.

Dozens of suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 112 Paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 Year 2009 concerning narcotics with a minimum penalty of 6 years and a maximum sentence of death.

"For hard drug dealers, the suspect was charged with Article 435 of Law No. 17 of 2023 on health with a penalty of 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1.5 billion," he concluded.
