Ciracas Residents' Initiative To Build Bridges Without Government Assistance, For Daily Activities

Residents of RW 06 Ciracas Village, Ciracas District, East Jakarta are isolated by waterways without pedestrian bridges. As a result, residents independently were forced to build bridges with makeshift materials.

The head of RW 06 Ciracas, Ali Effendi, said that because he was waiting for the repair of the permanent bridge by the kelurahan or sub-district for too long. Therefore, residents agreed to build independently using boards and blocks.

Residents reasoned that the bridge is very much needed by residents to access Jalan Penganten Ali or vice versa, every day.

"Residents are temporarily building self-defense bridges in the same style. So that children can cross to leave or go home from school. If there is no bridge, the road must go long through Mawar Street," Ali told reporters, Wednesday, January 24.

The bridge construction was carried out on Saturday, January 20 and last Sunday January 21. Development with a mutual cooperation system by residents.

"The length of the bridge, which was built is about 3 meters and 90 centimeters wide. This bridge collapsed during a water discharge in Phb Penganten Ali was high on Thursday, January 11," he said.

In addition, the cause of the bridge collapsed was also due to a seven-meter-long cliff and a height of 2.5 meters of landslide and the debris hit the bridge until it was heavily damaged.
