The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that four urban villages in Belitung Regency were flooded. Floods due to high intensity rain hit from noon.

"Based on the data we have collected in the field, four urban villages in Tanjung Pandan were flooded due to heavy rains that fell this afternoon," said Head of the Belitung BPBD Daily Executive, Agus Supriadi in Tanjung Pandan, Belitung, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Monday, November 13, confiscated by Antara.

He said the four urban villages, namely Kota Village, Pangkalang Village, Parit Village, and Kampung Damai Village.

"With the number of houses that were flooded, it reached hundreds of houses and we continue to update data regarding the number of houses that were flooded," he said.

According to Agus, the flood incident was caused by heavy rains pouring down the city of Tanjung Pandan starting at 13.00 WIB with water levels reaching the waist to the chest of an adult.

"Then the sea water conditions are in a "tiruk" or not receding state, causing rainwater to be held back to return to the sea so that it overflows and submerges residents' settlements," he said.

He added that the Belitung BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) immediately evacuated the people affected by the disaster.

Evacuation is prioritized for children, the elderly, and sick residents.

"We prioritize them for us to evacuate to a safer and higher place," he said.

In addition, the Belitung BPBD TRC also helps the community evacuate valuables such as motorbikes and other documents.

"We also lowered the water pump to suck up water that inundated houses of worship so that it could recede and be cleaned by the community," he said.

He appealed to the people in the area to be aware of flood disasters, especially when entering the current rainy season.

In addition, the public is also advised not to throw garbage in the drainage and river flow so that it does not experience blockage that can trigger flood events.

"We hope that the community will work together to maintain the cleanliness of the living environment, especially the waste problem which is one of the triggers for flood events," he said.
