List Of 20 Cities/Regencies Prone To Money Politics In The 2024 Election Which Was Criticized By Bawaslu

JAKARTA - The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) released a list of 20 cities/regencies in Indonesia that are prone to money politics practices in the 2024 General Election. This list is published through websites to official Bawaslu social media accounts, quoted by Voi.id Thursday, August 31.

Bawaslu did not provide a detailed explanation of the number on the list, whether it was related to the order of potential and level of vulnerabilities in money politics in the upcoming 2024 elections. Being number 1 on the list is Jayawijaya, Papua.

In the Java Island area, areas that are included in the top 20 money politics-prone areas include Serang City (Banten), East Jakarta City (DKI Jakarta), Temanggung Regency (Central Java), Magelang City (Central Java), and West Bandung (West Java).

Ponorogo Regency, East Java, is also listed as one of 20 regencies/cities in Indonesia that are at high risk of money politics. The head of the Ponorogo Regency Bawaslu, Muhammad Bahrun Mustofa, explained that this index arose because there were cases of money politics that were revealed in the 2019 election.

"Yes, Ponorogo is included in the top 20 areas prone to money politics," said Bahrun Mustofa as quoted by ANTARA.

Bahrun Mustofa explained that in the 2019 Election, Bawaslu succeeded in carrying out a hand arrest operation on the money politics case in one of the villages in Ponorogo. He added that currently his party is working on all forms of supervision and prevention so that the money political incidents that occurred in the 2019 election do not happen again in the 2024 election.

"We continue to socialize to the public and political parties about the prevention of money politics, both at the district and village levels," he added.

In addition, he also plans to instruct the Sub-District Supervisory Team (Panwascam) to village or sub-district supervisors to go to the field in order to support participatory supervision by local community leaders and provide understanding of the legal consequences of money politics.

"We will give the village supervisor a special task to map out people who should be suspected of having done and or will do money politics and monitor all movements in each village area in order to suppress money politics," he said.
