The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Opens Voices About the Project Worked on by Waskita Karya in the Middle of a Difficult Situation

JAKARTA - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) is facing a very difficult situation. This is because the BUMN Karya is currently surrounded by very large corporate debts.

From the WSKT-coded company's financial report, it shows its liabilities or debts of IDR 84.37 trillion, up to the first quarter of 2023.

Whereas, on the other hand, Waskita itself has won tenders on big projects, such as the construction of toll roads at the IKN and the construction of a number of National Strategic Projects (PSN).

In response to this, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) opened its voice regarding Waskita, which is currently in debt. The PUPR Ministry requests that the projects won by Waskita continue.

This is because the funds used to work on these projects come from the state budget.

"Yes, we want that if the source is from the APBN, let alone PSN then national priorities such as IKN, that, right, is given special facilities. That means, the source is from the APBN, it will continue," said PUPR Ministry spokesperson Endra S Atmawidjaja at the Sukamahi Dam, Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday, August 8.

Endra said that the cause of Waskita's condition, which was in debt, was not purely from the state budget, so that funds for projects such as IKN and PSN were not used to pay off debts.

"Well, the cause of Waskita's current condition is not purely from the APBN, yes. We asked (projects at IKN and PSN) to be separated and we have sent a list of projects handled by Waskita and other SOEs, including Wika, HK, and that is for separated, so they can keep going," he said.

He even hopes that Waskita will continue to carry out the existing duties. Later, if there is profit from the entire project, the funds will be used to pay off debts.

"We hope that Waskita will still be able to carry out the previous tasks. This means that the auction has won, the budget is available, this is not used directly to pay debts, but is used to complete projects. So, if there is profit, go ahead," he said .
