Russia's Latest Nuclear Submarine Ready To Perform Salvo Missiles Explore Of Kalibr And Oniks In The Barents Sea

JAKARTA - Russia's newest nuclear-powered submarine Project 885M (Yasen-M) Krasnoyarsk (K-571), will conduct three tests of the launch of Kalibr-PL and Oniks cruise missiles during the August and upcoming trials.

"During the combined state test, the Krasnoyarsk nuclear-powered submarine will launch three launches of Kalibr and Oniks missiles from its submerged position in the Barents Sea," a source close to the Russian Navy told TASS, as quoted August 4.

One test launch will involve the shooting of the Kalibr and Oniks cruise missile salvo, the source said.

After testing and examining its equipment, the Krasnoyarsk submarine, which was built on the Sevmash Shipyard, will be delivered to the Russian Navy by the end of this year. Meanwhile, permanent deployments in the Pacific Fleet are scheduled for next year.

Krasnoyarsk is the second serially and thirdly produced submarine made in the 885M Project (Yasen-M) abwah. The submarine was built in 2014 and launched on July 30, 2021.

A TASS source reported that the submarine was deployed to the White Sea on June 26, 2022, to begin sea trials by shipbuilders.

It is known that the Project 885M submarine was designed by the Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau based in Sankt Peterburg. The main Project 885M submarine, Kazan, was handed over to the Russian Navy on May 7, 2021.

Both multipurpose nuclear-powered submarines Project 885 and 885M, are equipped with Kalibr-PL and Oniks cruise missiles as its main attack weapons.
