2 Men Who Mutilated Students In Yogyakarta Arrested In Bogor, Motives Still Being Traced By Police

SLEMAN - The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Yogyakarta Special Region Police arrested two perpetrators of student mutilation at a private university in this province. Dirreskrimum Polda DIY Kombes FX Endriadi said two male perpetrators with the initials W, a resident of Magelang, Central Java and RD, a resident of DKI Jakarta, were arrested in Bogor, West Java, last Saturday, "Currently, the perpetrators are already at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Yogyakarta Regional Police and an intensive examination will be carried out regarding the motive and then their actions," said Endriadi during a press conference at the Yogyakarta Regional Police Headquarters, Sleman Regency, Antara, Sunday, July 16. The disclosure of the mutilation case, said Endriadi, stems from a report from the Sleman Police regarding the discovery of several pieces of human bodies suspected of being victims of mutilation in the Bedog River, Kelor Hamlet, Bangunkerto, Turi District, Sleman on July 12, 2023, at 19.30 WIB. The police then conducted an in-depth investigation of the body's findings at the Bhayangkara Polda DIY Hospital so that the identity of the victim was found to be male, a resident of Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. "The identity of the victim on behalf of the initials R, the person concerned is a student at a private university in Yogyakarta," he said. The police team then carried out the crime scene (TKP), digital forensics, and collected public information and narrowed the identities of the two suspects W and RD who were known to be in West Java. Both were successfully secured at RD's residence in Bogor, West Java, then taken to Yogyakarta on Saturday (15/7) night. "From the suspect's trip here (Yogyakarta), we interrogated where they threw away the pieces (of the victim's body)," said Endriadi. Based on the data obtained, according to him, the victim was executed at the suspect boarding house in Triharjo Village, Sleman District, Sleman Regency, DIY. Endriadi confirmed that the victim and the two suspects knew each other. However, regarding the motive and process of murder, the police are still investigating, including examining a number of evidences, such as pots, hoes, gas stoves, knives, basins, and hammers found at the suspect's boarding house. The police are also still searching for other body parts. "Regarding the relationship between the perpetrators and the victim, we are still investigating. Now we are investigating the criminal incident, how could the alleged murder and mutilation occur," he said. According to Endriadi, W works as an employee of a culinary business in Yogyakarta, while RD is a cake seller.

Against both of them, the police charged them with Article 340 of the Criminal Code on Premeditated Murder.
