BATAM - Fishermen at Kampung Melayu Beach, Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri), returned to sea after the beach was polluted with waste for three weeks.
Chairman of the United Batu Besar Joint Business Group Forum (FKUB) Muhammad Idris said fishermen had started fishing since the past week, although there was still little black waste left.
He explained that the results of the catch of the fishermen are not the same as before. This time the income of fishermen on the beach fell by about 40 percent.
"There are also people who went to sea last week. Here are traditional fishermen," he said in Batam, Antara, Monday, May 29.
He said most of the black waste had been lost, but there were still remaining oil on the surface of the water and shoreline which were quite difficult to eliminate.
"Most of them have disappeared. Yesterday there was a follow-up cleaning together because there were still oils. The results improved a little," he said.
Previously, the Batam City Environment Agency (DLH) worked together to clean up the waste of black oil or B3 waste in Melayu Beach, Nongsa District, Batam City, Riau Islands, Saturday.
From the mutual cooperation activity, it managed to collect seven tons of black oil waste mixed with sand and mud.
The cleaning activity along 70 meters from 300 meters of the polluted coastal coast involved approximately 60 people.
