JAKARTA - President Vladimir Putin thanked and praised the struggle of the Russian army on the battlefield of Ukraine, saying the future lies in their hands, as he addressed the commemoration of Victory Day, Tuesday.

President Putin said Russia was proud of those participating in the Special Operations held in Ukraine since February last year.

"The battle that determines the fate of our homeland has always been patriotic and sacred. We are loyal to the teachings of our ancestors, (and) we understand clearly what it means to deserve the splendor of their military, labor and moral achievements," President Putin explained, launching Sputnik News on May 9.

He added that specifically Moscow praised the soldiers fighting on the front lines of Ukraine, as well as those who rescued the injured.

"Now there is nothing more important than your military work. The security of the country rests with you now. The future of our country and our people depends on you. You respectfully fulfill your military duties, fighting for Russia," Putin stressed.

As previously reported, Russia held a military parade to commemorate the 78th anniversary of Victory Day against the Nazis in World War II in 1941-1945, which was held by the Red Moscow field, as quoted by TASS.
