Jakarta's Air Quality Is Still Bad, PSI Values That The Promotion Of Electric Vehicles From Formula E Is Not Enough

JAKARTA - Air quality in Jakarta is still a bad predicate subscription to date.

Member of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Justin Adrian Untayana, assessed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government needs to be more aggressive in suppressing air pollution in the capital city.

According to Justin, it is time for the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta to take concrete steps to resolve the problem of air pollution. Not only campaigning for the use of electric vehicles from the Formula E racing agenda as previously carried out by the governor.

"The solution is not easy, it needs integration in many lines. It takes a firm, visionary, governor figure with a progressive work agenda, compared to those with simple thinking by promoting electric vehicles with Formula E as an effort to reduce pollution," Justin told reporters, Tuesday, June 6.

Justin reminded the DKI Provincial Government that air pollution conditions in Jakarta are dangerous for the health of its citizens, especially for children.

For this reason, this member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD said that there are two main things that need to be addressed, starting from limiting motorized vehicles and improving spatial planning in DKI, which is so chaotic.

"The main contributor to the poor quality in DKI Jakarta is indeed pollution due to motorized vehicles. In 2022 there will be around 26 million vehicles in DKI Jakarta. So far, there has never been a firm effort to control the population of motorized vehicles," he explained.

In addition, Justin stated that the use of motorized vehicles can be carried out using WFH, enforcing the rules for car owners to have a garage, tightening emission tests that increase parking rates, illegal parking action, and increase the safe and comfortable capacity of public transportation.

In improving spatial planning, Justin asked the DKI Provincial Government to make spatial planning improvements such as providing affordable comfort flats for the relocation of densely populated urban settlements.

"Concentrated housing (flats) will make it easier for the provincial government to integrate population housing with the mass transportation system," said Justin.

"As long as residential areas are continuously not well zoned, it is difficult to integrate with public transportation networks, and encourage residents to buy motorized vehicles," he added.

This morning, the Air Quality Data Institute IQ Air declared that air quality in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 6 at 07.00 WIB this morning was the worst in the world.

The air quality index in Jakarta is at 157 with its main pollutant, namely PM 2.5 and a concentration value of 67 m3 (micrograms per cubic meter). PM2.5 concentration in Jakarta is currently 13.4 times the value of the WHO annual air quality guide.

Meanwhile, as of 14.00 WIB today, the air quality in Jakarta is in the fourth worst position in the world. Air in Jakarta this afternoon was declared unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The air quality index in Jakarta this afternoon was at 144 with its main pollutant, namely PM 2.5 and a concentration value of 53 pieces/m3. PM2.5 concentration in Jakarta is currently 10.6 times the value of the WHO annual air quality guide.
