JAKARTA - Naughty Dog has confirmed that they decided to stop developing a game project that has been known as The Last of Us Online.

"We know this news will be difficult for many people, especially our dedicated community of The Last of Us Facts, which has followed our multiplayer ambitions excitedly," the company wrote in its official announcement quoted Friday, December 15.

Naughty Dog also revealed the reasons behind the termination of game development. They said that this broad scope and ambition project means that all teams must focus primarily on supporting games with post-launch content for the coming years, and the studio makes the decision to continue to focus on the experience of single players driven by the narrative it already knows.

The multiplayer team has been pre-producting with this game since we worked on The Last of Us Part II, compiling experiences that we feel are unique and have tremendous potential, explained the company.

"In increasing full production, the scope of our ambition becomes clear. To release and support The Last of Us Online, we have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post-launch content for the years to come, having a huge impact on the development of single-player games in the future," he added.

"So, we have two paths ahead of us: to be a live service game studio solely or to continue to focus on the narrative game of the single players who have defined the legacy of the Naughty Dog."

On the other hand, Naughty Dog currently has more than one ambitious and new single-player game. And we can't wait to share more about what will happen next when we are ready.
