JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, reminded the importance of improving security and service transportation facilities and tourism objects, especially ahead of the long holiday at the end of the year. He asked the Government to ensure the safety of the community, especially those traveling during the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year holidays.

"At the end of the year there will be high community mobility and I hope there will be an improvement in services from every mode of public transportation and road security for those using private vehicles," said Puan, Friday, December 8.

As is known, the moment of the year-end holiday is usually used by people to go home or travel to tourist attractions. This is because there are long holidays during Christmas and New Year celebrations. Moreover, at the end of this year also coincided with school holidays that allowed high community mobilization.

To ensure the comfort of the community on the way, Puan reminded the Government to coordinate as well as possible with the National Police and transportation service operators.

"As for those who use land routes, pay attention to making the rest area regulated in such a way that there is no buildup during homecoming and backflow. So that people can rest safely and comfortably," said the first woman who served as Chairman of the DPR RI.

"Of course this also applies to all modes of transportation. Whether land routes, trains, seas, or air transportation modes must be able to prepare the best service for people who want to travel," continued Puan.

In addition, the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture highlighted the importance of travel monitoring posts equipped with health facilities. According to Puan, a properly functioning monitoring post can be the main instrument in monitoring traffic and responding to emergencies.

"A monitoring post complete with health facilities can provide a quick response in emergency situations and support the safety of transport users," he said.

Furthermore, Puan highlighted the increase in Covid-19 cases which could potentially be higher if not well anticipated. Puan asked the Government to prepare special steps in dealing with excessive crowds during the year-end holidays, especially in tourist attractions.

"Although the trend of symptoms is still mild, we must not be careless with Covid-19. The DPR will also oversee it to ensure that health services during long holidays are maintained," he said.

Puan also reminded the public to continue to live a healthy lifestyle. Especially now that there is a lot of information about the mysterious pneumonia virus that attacks children a lot.

It also takes vigilance from the community itself in protecting their families. In the midst of this mysterious pneumonia issue, health supervision for children must be considered more. As much as possible provide children with complete vaccinations," said Puan.

On the other hand, the legislator from the Central Java V electoral district reminded the Government to supervise every tourist attraction. Puan said this to ensure the safety and comfort of the community.

"The safety of visitors at tourist attractions must also be considered, there must be supervision from policy makers and maintenance of every tourist facility, especially those with security risks," he explained.

"We don't want accidents in tourist attractions to happen again because of the lack of security systems. Tourist attractions must also be far from the threat of disease outbreaks. So that people can enjoy their vacations with pleasure," concluded Puan.
