Acting (Pj) Papuan Governor Nikolaus Kondomo Mountains believes that armed criminal groups (KKB) or terrorist separatist groups (KST) in Papua do not receive support or supplies of weapons from abroad or foreign parties.
"I don't think so," Nikolaus told reporters after attending the inauguration of Six Members of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in Papua (BP3OKP) at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Antara, Monday, May 29.
Nikolaus has this belief because according to him it is not easy to smuggle weapons from abroad into Indonesia.
“ We have security, government, it is not arbitrary (illegal weapons) entering our country. Not just any illegal goods (can enter), there must be a good selection (supervision),” Nikolaus said.
According to him, the weapons used by the KKB/KST were looted from the TNI/Polri.
"That's the result of the confiscation of the weapons, the result of the confiscation from the TNI, shooting the TNI. Like that. (Actually) there is no power (of them),” he said.
To note, six districts in Papua are designated as vulnerable areas or the KKB/KST red zone.
Three districts namely Nduga, Yahukimo, and the Bintang Mountains entered the Papua Mountains Province. The other three, namely Puncak, Puncak Jaya, and Intan Jaya are in the Central Papua Province.
According to Nikolaus, the problem in Papua, especially the Papua Mountains, is the issue of human resources that do not yet understand and are easily influenced by irresponsible parties.
He said that infrastructure development is needed, especially roads as quickly as possible as well as improving welfare in Papua, especially Mountains Papua.
He hopes that the central government can provide a more special program in Papua related to development there.
“ If possible there will be an extraordinary program. For example, road construction, this is important. Until now, the road has not been passed, it has not been able to run well, provincial roads with provinces, provinces with districts, that's not good until now," he said.
Nikolaus believes that if people enjoy development, there will be no group that will interfere with security in Papua.
He said that until now, the Papua Mountains area can only be achieved with planes that are quite expensive.
As a result, the prices of goods became expensive, one of which was cement, which according to him could reach Rp. 500,000-Rp. 800,000 for just one sack of cement.
“Semen sudah Rp500-Rp800 satu sak, semen saja. Rp500-Rp800 ribu,” ujar dia.
He stressed that terrorist separatist groups will not survive if development and welfare continue to be improved.
“Di (Pulau) Jawa kampung dekat, masyarakat banyak, perumahan juga ada. Di sana (Papua) tidak ada. (Antara) kampung satu dengan kampung satu, tidak ada orang. Di tengah pun tidak ada orang. Jalan puntut semua, mereka harus meganggu (barang), harus berjalan kaki, ini penyebabnya di sana. Kami harap pemerintah pusat membangun Papua dengan program extraordinary,” ujar dia.
