JAKARTA - Indonesian women's singles badminton player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, passed the first challenge by winning against Myanmar, Thet Htar Thuzar, in the preliminary match in Group M of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In the match which took place at Field 2 Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, Japan, Sunday, Gregoria won the straight game in just 22 minutes with the final result 21-11, 21-8, as quoted by Antara from the official BWF.
In terms of ranking, Gregoria is indeed far superior because, she is currently ranked 23rd in the world, while Thuzar is at number 65.
The Garuda representative played well in the first game. She immediately stole the opening points and continued to lead thereafter. There was not much significant resistance from Thuzar.
Her opponent was only able to balance up to 4-4. The rest, Gregoria dominated the game.
With agile movements, Gregoria swiftly secured point by point until finally being able to win the first game with a score of 21-11.
