Madiun Prison Fails To Smuggle Methamphetamine Hidden In Al-Quran Mushaf
MADIUN - Officers of the Class II A Youth Correctional Institution Madiun, East Java thwarted the smuggling of methamphetamine-type narcotics in prisons brought by visitors by hiding in the Mushaf of the Koran.
Head of the Regional Office of the East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Imam Jauhari, said that the smuggling was known to be a goods deposit officer at the Madiun Youth Prison when checking the luggage of a woman with the initials PWG.
"It happened this Tuesday at around 09.30 WIB in the Integrated Service Room of Madiun Youth Prison. Methamphetamine-type drugs weighing 14.98 grams tried to be smuggled into the prison by tucking it into the Al-Quran Mushaf," said Imam as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 23.
He explained that the disclosure of the drug smuggling attempt began with the suspicion of prison officers led by the Head of the Ardian Nova Christiawan Prison. Officers are suspicious of the goods entrusted by the perpetrators.
"PWG brought some food and a book, namely the Utsmani Qur'an Mushaf which is planned to be intended for his nephew, who is an inmate with the initials MAT," said Imam.
The pink dominant book was considered quite suspicious because the back of the Mushaf Al-Quran looked prominent, the cover barrier looked not neat, and there was a kind of mound on the back of the Mushaf Al-Quran.
Feeling suspicious, the officers dismantled the volume of the book for evidence led by Kalapas Ardian Nova Christiawan.
After being carefully searched, officers found a white crystalline powder wrapped in clear plastic. The package is tightened along the inside of the back of the book.
"After checking, the powder that was attached to the inside of the Mushaf Al-Quran's back turned out to contain methamphetamine which is a type of methamphetamine narcotic," said Head of Police Ardian Nova.

Nova said there were two suspects who were handed over to the Madiun City Police. Apart from PWG, there is a husband with the initials JS who previously waited in the parking lot.
"Both of them admitted that they did not know that the Koran they brought was methamphetamine because their nephew, who graduated from the pesantren," said Nova.
PWG admitted that he received the deposit on Thursday (18/5) at Purboyo Madiun Terminal. It is planned to be sent to MAT that day in prison.
However, on Thursday last week the prison visit service closed due to the red date which coincided with the Ascension Commemoration of Isa Al Masih so that PWG returned to Madiun Youth Prison on Tuesday (23/5).
Based on these findings, his party contacted the police for further processing. Both evidence and suspects have been handed over to the authorities.
"This finding is a form of our commitment to eradicating drug trafficking," said Nova.
