JAKARTA - Samsung has just expanded its business to food platforms and recipes supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Dubbed Samsung Food, this application glides in 104 countries around the world in eight languages, namely English US, English, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), French, Italian and Korean versions. Supporting languages will be added in a few years.

Samsung Food has more than 160,000 recipes, which will act as personal assistants to help users find new dishes, create plans to eat and order ingredients online.

Users can also control their cooking utensils, as well as provide cooking guidelines. They can also share favorite recipes on social media.

The AI-based app, leveraging Whisk's extensive database, a smart food platform acquired by Samsung Next in 2019, leverages advanced technology called Food AI to suggest food based on user preferences and seasonal dishes.

"By connecting digital equipment and mobile devices throughout the Samsung ecosystem and helping users from shopping lists to dining plates, Samsung Food uses advanced AI capabilities to provide a very personal and controllable full culinary experience for users directly from their palms," said Executive Vice President and Head of the Biz Group. Services from the Digital Equipment Business in Samsung Elektronik, Chanwoo Park in his announcement, quoted Thursday, August 31.

When users find a recipe, they can save it in a personal digital recipe box. Then, the app will analyze the recipe, standardize the format, and set it to create a shopping list based on the ingredients.

It is also equipped with the Recipe Personalization function, where Food AI can directly change saved recipes to better reflect the user's diet needs.

They can even make fusion recipes, such as Korean versions of Italian cuisine, and adjust cooking time or the level of recipe expertise.

In addition to the various features above, Samsung plans to offer Samsung Health integration with Samsung Food later this year, so users can receive diet management advice.

Synchronization of information such as BMI, body composition, and calorie consumption with Samsung Food will help users achieve health goals and maintain a balanced diet.

Vision AI technology will also be added to Samsung Food, to identify food and food items that are photographed through the camera and then provide details, including nutritional information.

By analyzing food items, the app can recommend the best recipe for use, save the recipe to the user's collection and add the required ingredients to the shopping list, all in a few taps. The feature will come in 2024.
