Good News, Google Translate Brings Many AI-Based Features

JAKARTA - Google Translate is much needed for those who are constrained by language in communicating. Hence, the company rolled out several new features powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the app.

Quoted from the Google blog, Thursday, February 9, starting this month, Google Translate will give users more choices with various examples in the translated language.

Consider, for example, the difference between playing bass guitar and ordering bass for dinner, both of which are obviously spelled the same but pronounced differently in English.

With the update, the app will provide the user with the necessary context, as well as use the correct local idioms and phrases to express the message the user is referring to.

The new capabilities will work in English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish starting in the next few weeks, other languages ​​will be developed in the future.

Google Translate is also getting a new look, in line with Android 13 which has already rolled out to users. In the next few weeks, iOS apps will also get that new twist.

Google Translate's new design offers more space for typing and easily accessible controls if users want voice input, conversational translation, and Google Lens.

Furthermore, when the user swipes the current home screen, it displays the latest translation and a long press on the language button displays the recently used language, making the app much more efficient.

Translations are now also easier to read, with dynamic fonts that adjust automatically as text is typed. Alternative definitions and phrases are now shown, when available, to help users get the best results.

In addition, Google is adding 33 new languages ​​to its on-device translation options, for use without an internet connection, including Basque, Corsican, Hawaiian, Hmong, Kurdish, Latin, Luxembourgish, Sundanese, Yiddish, Zulu and others.

Finally, Google is also giving more capabilities to image-based translation with Google Lens. Where users can blend the translated text much smoother with the original image, so it looks more natural.

Google says it will continue to experiment with AI-based options in Google Translate, with the ultimate goal of becoming a faster and more accurate translation service for users everywhere.
