JAKARTA - Former US President Donald Trump told Fox News Digital on Wednesday January 18 that his campaign team is in talks with Meta Platforms Inc. This talk  is about Trump's possible return to Facebook and Instagram, two years after those social media banned him for accusations of inciting violence.

"We're talking to them, and we'll see how things go," Trump said, according to the report.

"If they take us back it will help them a lot, and that's fine with me," he said. "But they need us more than we need them."

Meta himself declined to comment to Reuters about the report.

Trump launched his bid to regain the presidency in 2024 in -November 2022.

Meta, the world's largest social media company, will make a controversial decision about the future of Trump's account this month.

Meanwhile, Trump has actually avoided Twitter, since the social media platform owned by Elon Musk in November 2022  restored his account. Instead, he says he prefers his own platform, Truth Social. According to Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told Fox News Digital last Wednesday that Trump's return to Facebook "will be an important tool for the 2024 campaign. reaching voters."

Meta revoked Trump's access to Facebook and Instagram after deleting two of his posts during the January 6, 2021 US Capitol riot. The deletions included videos containing false claims of voter fraud that was widespread during the 2020 presidential election.

The company's independent supervisory board later ruled in 2021 that the suspension was warranted but objected to its uncertain nature. In response, Meta committed to reviewing the suspension two years after it started.
