Joe Biden Accuses Elon Musk's Twitter Acquisition, Spitting Lies Around The World

JAKARTA - Social media often has implications for the world of politics. The relevance of social media platforms in influencing global politics was first highlighted with the advent of Facebook. They were once accused of manipulating information based on user demographics.

Twitter, which was recently acquired by Elon Musk, has also been in trouble as US President Joe Biden accused the website of starting to spew lies.

Biden attended a fundraising event in Chicago for the upcoming election, where he said Elon Musk who bought Twitter would spit out lies.

“Now what are we all worried about? Elon Musk goes out and buys clothes that send and spew lies all over the world," Biden said as quoted by Cointelegraph.

While the previous Biden administration has clarified its stance on promoting the suppression of hate speech and misinformation on social media platforms, Biden has highlighted the lack of oversight on Twitter.

“There are no more editors. No editors. How do we expect children to understand what is at stake,” he said.

Since Bitcoin was launched in 2009, the crypto community has also chosen Twitter as its home to discuss various nuances and reach a consensus on decisions made. Musk's $44 billion Twitter acquisition comes with the promise of free speech. However, with hate speech increasing, many advertisers have withdrawn from doing business with Twitter due to content moderation issues.

Musk's direct actions for Twitter, including charging $7.99/month for users who wish to maintain their account verification, have also been heavily attacked.

But Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, CEO of crypto exchange Binance, backed Musk's Twitter acquisition effort, even donating $500 million using fiat currency to fund the acquisition.

Binance has drawn up plans to form a team to support Twitter's blockchain efforts, however, an official statement is currently pending.
