Rivian's Amazon Custom Electric Van Comes With A Line Of Sophisticated Safety Features

JAKARTA - Amazon has started sending packages using a special electric van made by Rivian in cities such as Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Nashville, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, and St. Louis.

Amazon is also targeting the delivery of these electric vans to 100 other cities by the end of the year.

"The ultimate goal, at least for now, is to have more than 100,000 EV delivery vans on the road by 2030," the company said.

According to Amazon's website, the special electric van, assembled at Rivian's factory in Normal, Illinois, has a sleek design that is equipped with an exterior camera that can provide a 360-degree view for the driver via a digital display.

According to him, the design features of this EV van are similar to other gas-fueled vehicles, but there are differences in the electrical architecture and custom features that have been integrated into the van.

In addition to the 360-degree exterior camera, some of the other features available are road driving and traffic assist features and surround taillights, for better braking visibility.

Interestingly, the door will lock and open automatically when the driver approaches or leaves the vehicle. The bulkhead door will open when the driver has reached the destination.

In addition, the battery used is very light, durable, and cost-effective in addition to lasting the lifetime of the vehicle.

Amazon has also added thousands of charging stations at its delivery stations across the country. In partnership with the nonprofit CERES and several other fleet operators, Amazon will launch the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance, to bring companies together to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.

According to reports, the electric delivery van is part of the company's pledge to achieve its vision of net zero carbon across its operations by 2040.
