Netflix Will Charge Additional Fees For Using Sharing Accounts With Others

JAKARTA - Movie streaming service Netflix announced that on Tuesday, July 19, it will begin testing a new "add a home" feature to bill users who share their accounts with others in certain countries.

In its announcement, Netflix said that this was an effort to follow up on sharing passwords with the masses. This test will ask users to pay an additional fee if they use the account outside of their household.

The feature will begin rolling out next month in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.

How "add a home" Works

So, when testing is carried out later, everyone who subscribes to Netflix in any package must include a home address where you can enjoy the service.

To use a Netflix account outside of the main home, the company will charge an additional $2.99 per month. Members on the Basic plan can add one extra home, Standard up to two extras, and Premium up to three extras.

When you have purchased an additional home, you can only enjoy services anywhere via your mobile, laptop, or tablet.

This new feature also allows you to control where your account is used, and delete it at any time from your account settings page.

Netflix says that this feature was previously launched in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru in March 2022. The feature is dubbed "add extra member". Netflix will charge additional fees to users outside of the primary home.

This isn't the only way the company can monetize, but Netflix has previously announced that it will launch a cheaper subscription plan with ad support.

In addition, Netflix works with Microsoft as a global advertising technology and sales partner to help streaming services generate revenue through advertising.
