Hacker Group Anonymous Swears To Bring Terra Founder, Do Kwon, To Court

JAKARTA - Hacker group Anonymous has vowed to "ensure" Terra co-founder Do Kwon is "brought to justice as soon as possible". This is due to the collapse of the Terra (LUNA) and TerraUSD (UST) ecosystems in May.

On Sunday, June 26, a video purported to be from the hacking group Anonymous repeated Kwon's list of alleged wrongdoings. These mistakes, including cashing out 80 million US dollars (Rp 1.2 trillion) monthly from LUNA and UST before the collapse, as well as his role in the collapse of stablecoin Basis Cash, allegedly created by Do Kwon under the pseudonym “Rick Sanchez” in late 2020.

“Do Kwon, if you listen, unfortunately, nothing can be done to reverse the damage you have done. At this point, the only thing we can do is hold you accountable and ensure that you are brought to justice as soon as possible."

The hacker group said it would investigate Do Kwon's actions since he entered the crypto space to uncover his alleged crimes.

“Anonymous is investigating Do Kwon's entire history since he entered the crypto space to see what we can learn and reveal", the group said, as quoted by Cointelegraph.

"There is no doubt that there is more evil to be found in the traces of your destruction."

The hacking group also criticized Kwon for his "arrogant tactics" in trapping competitors and critics and "acting as if he would never fail."

Originated in 2003 on 4chan, Anonymous is a decentralized international activist group known for orchestrating cyber attacks against government agencies, institutions, private companies, and even the Church of Scientology.

In June 2021, the same YouTube channel aimed at Tesla CEO Elon Musk for allegedly "destroying lives" by using his influence and influence on Twitter to play with the crypto market. This video had approximately 3.4 million views as of Monday, June 27.

It should be noted that several YouTube channels claim to be affiliated with the hacker group Anonymous. However, there is a consensus that there is no official YouTube channel for the group, given its decentralized and anonymous nature.

Public Reaction

YouTube video commentators and the community on Twitter appear to broadly support the hacking group's promise to go after Kwon, with one commenter calling Anonymous the "Robinhood of today."

However, the video message garnered more skepticism on the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit, with users criticizing the hacking group for issuing empty threats against Kwon and not providing new information to the public. One commenter said:

"Anonymous is so juvenile now [...] This anonymous video is so non-threatening it's almost weird."

While another said, "expected they had found something but nothing more than nothing."

It seems that, for now, Kwon will likely have a bigger and more real threat to worry about.

Terraform Labs, of which Do Kwon is a co-founder, is currently under several investigations from South Korean authorities, including alleged embezzlement of Bitcoin (BTC) from the company's treasury.

In May, a notorious financial crime investigation unit dubbed the “Grim Reaper of Yeouido” was revived by South Korea to investigate the collapse of Terra. The team is made up of various regulators and will focus on prosecuting fraud and illegal trade schemes.

Later that month, Korean authorities summoned all Terraform Labs employees to investigate the internal role in market manipulation.

The company has also been fined $78 million by South Korea's national tax agency for tax evasion charges.
