JAKARTA - This year Neuralink's first human clinical trial will begin with the hope of giving disabled people the ability to communicate and control computers using the power of their minds.

Elon Musk's company Neuralink looks set to begin the first human trials of its revolutionary brain-computer technology, which is implanted into the skull and allows people to use the technology with just their brains.

Neuralink has posted a job listing for 'Director of Clinical Trials' on its website, indicating that the company plans to take the development to the next level after successful trials in pigs and monkeys.

In one example, a nine-year-old monkey or ape could play a video game using his mind. This is certainly very impressive.

Musk confirmed last month that early human trials would take place in 2022, starting with paralyzed patients who would use interfaces to control computers with their minds.

This is all part of a plan to use Neuralink to treat people with brain disorders and diseases. Musk said that it would "resolve important brain and spinal cord problems with a seamlessly implanted device."

"You can overcome blindness, you can overcome paralysis, you can overcome hearing," he said in 2020, as quoted by the DailyStar.

"In the future, you'll be able to save and replay memories. It sounds more and more like a Black Mirror episode ... Eventually, you can download it into a new body or a robot body," Musk said at the time.

It's worth mentioning that this will likely be the first official clinical trial, but it may not be the first time Neuralink has been used by humans.

Last year, Grimes revealed that he planned to get one of the brain implants along with rapper Lil Uzi Vert to gain "knowledge of the Gods".

It's not clear if he's still up for it after breaking up with Elon Musk, but it could lead him to make more outlandish music than ever.
