JAKARTA - Tria, vocalist of The Changcuters, revealed the story behind the band's name when he was a guest on Ferdy Tahier's YouTube channel alias Ferdy Element.

The singer from Bandung said that the use of The" in the band name followed the trend that was back in the early 2000s.

Tria called the band from New York, United States which was formed in 1998, The Strokes as one of its initiators.

"Well, in our language first, we joked first, 'Let's just make the band The The', that's it. I want to make it like that,' said Tria, launching the YouTube channel Ferdy ELEMENT on Wednesday, September 13.

"But in Indonesia there are also many more, such as The Brandals, The Sigit and all kinds of things," he continued.

Meanwhile, the names The Changcuters were chosen by Tria along with Qibil (guitar), Alda (guitar), Dipa (bass) and Erick (drums) as band names from the start.

The name of the band, called Tria, had made her parents uncomfortable. The reason is, the name is considered to have dirty connotations.

"My face is so uncomfortable, why is it called The Changcuters," he said.

Changcuters themselves were taken from the nickname of Qibil's old friend who at that time had not seen each other for a long time.

"That's her nickname, Qibil's friend who is called Light," said Tria.

Since the re-meeting of Qibil with his old friend, he and his friends who later became members of The Changcuters, have a nickname "cut".

They also named their friendship group Changcuters, which was later chosen as the band name when it debuted in 2004.
