TAM Confirms Corolla GR Production Will Be Sustainable And Limited

JAKARTA - Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) introduced GR Corolla at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023 last August. This sports car caught the attention of Indonesian automotive lovers who offered an impressive combination of high performance and design.

TAM confirms that the Corolla GR will be produced in limited quantities, but the model will be assembled sustainably. Unlike the Yaris GR which is only produced once with the purchase lottery system, Toyota plans to maintain production of the Corolla GR.

This is different from GR Yaris. At that time, GR Yaris was produced as many as 25,000 units as a decision at once. After that, Toyota no longer produced it. However, for GR Corolla, this is a continuation, and we don't want to hold a lottery," said Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of PT TAM, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 15.

Although production will continue, TAM has not provided further information about the number of units that will be available to Indonesia in 2024.

"We are still in the homologation stage, and we are in discussion to determine the number of supplies. However, we do not yet know the exact number, because the unit is very limited around the world," added Anton.

Toyota GR Corolla is a high-performance hot hatch developed by the Gazoo Racing (GR) division based on the Corolla E210. The car was introduced globally in 2022 and was originally produced to meet demand from North America that did not get the GR Yaris unit.

However, the Corolla GR turns out to be in great demand in various countries, including Japan, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia. In fact, for the Thai market, this car is only available in limited quantities, namely nine units.

This high-performance car is powered by a 3-cylinder gasoline engine with a 1.6 liter track with the same turbocharged G16E-GTS as the one used by GR Yaris. With this engine, GR Corolla is capable of generating up to 300 dk of power and 360 Nm of torque.
