Ministry of Industry Prepares Industry to Enter Market for Compulsory Halal Certification in 2024

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to encourage the industrial sector to be ready to enter the mandatory halal certification market in 2024, one of which is by preparing Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) services so that they are accredited as Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) services.

"Of the 24 UPTs spread throughout Indonesia, currently there are 13 UPTs that are committed and ready and accredited as Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) Services to serve the domestic industrial community," said the Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) Ministry of Industry Doddy Rahadi quoted from Antara, Sunday.

This was conveyed by Doddy at the launch of the Banjarbaru Industrial Standardization and Service Center (BSPJI) LPH which has received accreditation as an LPH by the Ministry of Religion's Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body (BPJPH).

"LPH BSPJI Banjarbaru has scope for food and beverage products, which will certainly simplify and increase the efficiency of the halal certification process for industrial communities in the South Kalimantan region and its surroundings," said Doddy.

One of the efforts to develop the LPH BSPJI Banjarbaru institution is to continue to improve capabilities, both in human resources, facilities and infrastructure as well as increasing the scope of certification.

Currently, LPH BSPJI Banjarbaru already has five human resources for halal auditors, three human resources for assisting in the process of halal products, and two human resources for sharia resources.

The obligation for halal-certified products is based on Law Number 33 of 2014 and Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021 which states that products that enter, circulate and trade in the territory of Indonesia must be halal-certified.

The phasing of halal certification obligations will be carried out in stages starting with food and beverage products in 2024, followed by medicinal, cosmetic, and goods commodity products in October 2026.

Therefore, to accelerate the growth of the halal industry ecosystem, the Ministry of Industry has a halal industry empowerment program in the form of promotion and cooperation in empowering the halal industry, strengthening halal industry infrastructure, and facilitating halal product certification.

Meanwhile, Head of BSPJI Banjarbaru Arhamsyah stated that the existence of LPH BSPJI Banjarbaru aims to increase the competitiveness of the national industry, guarantee the quality of industrial output, and create healthy and fair business competition.

"Products that have used halal standards are expected to have good and consistent quality so that they can increase competitiveness and global marketing," he said.

Arhamsyah hopes that the presence of LPH BSPJI Banjarbaru can help large, medium and small industries in developing halal products in the South Kalimantan region which are supported by certified human resource auditors and halal test laboratories ready to serve all industrial customers.
