Get Ready! Ojol Will Be A Priority Recipient Of The Electric Motor Conversion Program

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif ensured that online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) would become recipients of the subsidy program for converting oil-fueled motors (BBM) into electric motors.

"It is important that we prioritize the ojol," he told the media quoted on Saturday, December 10.

This conversion program is carried out to suppress oil exports and increase domestic electricity absorption.

Arifin said that the provision of subsidies would later adjust to the government's capabilities.

In addition to ojol drivers, continued Arifin, subsidies will also be given for the purchase of motorcycles and electric cars for manufacturers or finished products.

Later, the provision of this subsidy will also be prioritized for the lower middle class who really need assistance.

"People's segments who really need it, so it's not people who have a Ferrari, they keep wanting to use an electric Tesla, don't be like that," he added.

He further added that the provision of incentives for electric vehicles had previously been carried out in other countries to support the ability of people to obtain electric vehicles.

To note, currently the policy of providing subsidies for the procurement of electric vehicles is still being discussed and is expected to be completed before 2023.

"The provision of this subsidy must touch people who really need it. Hopefully, before 2023," he concluded.
