JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said that the provision of a deterrent effect for corruptors is no longer the focus of new crimes in the future. He even called the concept ancient.

This was conveyed by Yusril in response to President Prabowo Subianto's statement that he was willing to forgive corruptors as long as he returned the results of the riots enjoyed. He said that the provision of a deterrent effect was actually a legal legacy made since the Dutch colonized Indonesia.

"Look, our new crime is no longer talking much about the deterrent effect," Yusril told reporters in Jakarta quoted on Saturday, December 21.

In the future, Yusril said that this concept will try to be changed. The government is more trying to make corruptors return the proceeds of their crimes while realizing their actions.

How to repeat that, he can only do that if he becomes a regent, "explained the Minister of State Secretary during the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

"If he's a motorcycle taxi driver, when he wants to be bribed. So, right, he also thinks like that. So, there is a deterrent effect, right so that the person will give up, but how do he want to do it again if he's not the regent anymore? That's it," said Yusril.

As previously reported, President Prabowo Subianto asked corruptors to return the money that had been stolen from the state. He said this step could make them perhaps forgiven.

Hey corruptors, or those who have felt like stealing from the people, if you return those you stole, maybe we will forgive, but return them," Prabowo said as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Thursday.
