Using ATRS In Soetta, Security Checks Can Be Up To 200 People Per Hour

JAKARTA - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) implemented an Automated Tray Returned System (ATRS) at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport to increase the efficiency of security checks in the security check point (SCP) area before passengers go to the waiting room for boarding.

InJourney Airports President Director Faik Fahmi said that the move was taken to support the smooth flow of passengers and overcome the buildup in the passenger safety checkpoint, luggage before entering the waiting room.

"With the old 1 hour concept, it can only serve about 200 people. Now with the new ATRS concept, it can take 500 people for 1 hour (inspection)," said Faik quoting Antara.

He said that with this technology, the inspection process was faster because passengers no longer needed to remove items such as laptops or water bottles from their bags.

According to him, if there are items that require further inspection, the system will automatically direct the bag to a special lane without disturbing other passenger queues.

"So the process can be fast because passengers who come do not need to take out a laptop, there is no need to emit mineral water (if brought), so it can be detected directly through the system we have," he said.

Faik explained that two ATRS units had been installed at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, specifically to serve domestic passengers, mainly anticipating buildup during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Although the number is still limited, this technology is expected to be able to serve inspections of passenger luggage more efficiently.

For him, ATRS technology is expected to reduce long queues in the SCP area. With a shorter processing time, passengers have more free time to enjoy airport facilities.

Faik revealed that ATRS was also implemented at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport. However, the ATRS system in Soekarno-Hatta is considered more sophisticated.

This cut in inspection time is part of an effort to improve passenger experience. With a more efficient processing time, the airport can accommodate more passengers without reducing comfort.

The ATRS technology implemented in Soekarno-Hatta was adopted from a similar system used at Hong Kong International Airport (Hong Kong International Airport/HKIA), one of the busiest airports in the world.

"That's the latest technology from security checks in the world. So this is one of the latest technologies. What I know is that it's in the new Hong Kong. It's exactly the same as in Hong Kong, it's the latest technology," said Faik.
