Hong Kong Open 2023: Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Tiket Perempat Final

JAKARTA Gregoria Mariska Tunjung became Indonesia's first representative to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open 2023.

The 24-year-old badminton player secured a ticket after beating Singapore's singles Yeo Jia Min with a score of 21-11, 21-18 at Hong Kong Coliseum, Thursday, September 14.

In the first game, Gregoria actually lost points first. However, he could not be overtaken by the opponent again after identifying the score 1-1.

"In the first game, the opponent seemed not ready with the situation, so it was very easy for me to get points and lead, which was quite convincing. That made me feel confident, I went up for provisions in the second game," he said after the match.

In the second game it was the same. After missing the first number, Gregoria immediately scored three consecutive points. Since then, the opponent has not been able to catch a score at all.

However, in the final points, Yeo had stuck to the 2017 junior world champion. Luckily, Gregoria was able to overcome this pressure.

"In the second game everything went quite well until at the end I was tense and made a lot of mistakes myself. Luckily when conditions were tense and depressed, took time to calm down," he said.

Gregoria said he still had to evaluate himself after stepping into the quarter-finals. Moreover, he has the potential to meet the seed for the next match.

"At the Hong Kong Open this time, there were indeed some leading players who did not come but for me it was the same because all the opponents must be difficult for me to beat. I still need to work hard," he said.
