Visiting Tanjung Priok Port, Minister Of Transportation Dudy Ensures Smooth Sea Transportation Travel

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said that the implementation of Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru) transportation through sea transportation was running well and smoothly to date.

This was conveyed by Dudy after monitoring Nataru's trip with the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), and Deputy Minister of SOEs Kartika Wirjoatmodjo at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Sunday, December 29.

Dudy said that during the implementation of Nataru transportation, the Ministry of Transportation continues to make visits to ports, see firsthand the readiness of sea transportation facilities and infrastructure in serving the community, as well as ensuring the smooth running of sea transportation.

"We spoke with many passengers, ensured that the entire team was on standby, and saw firsthand the readiness and feasibility of the ship facilities that would be used by the community," he said in an official statement, Sunday, December 29.

Dudy also appealed to all sea transportation service providers and all stakeholders involved to always improve and prioritize the safety and security aspects of passengers, in order to provide optimal service.

During his visit to Tanjung Priok Port, Dudy also reviewed the facilities at the passenger terminal and greeted the passengers of the KM Labobar ship which will sail from Jakarta to Surabaya, Makassar, Baubau, Ambon to several areas in Papua.

Dudy revealed that the port of Tanjung Priok is one of the crucial points for the movement of passengers in and out of Jakarta. In fact, there was an increase in passengers during Nataru.

"As previously predicted, there was an increase in the number of passengers on sea transportation and crossings during Nataru compared to normal days, all of which could be served well by PT Pelindo, PT Pelni, and other private ship operators," he said.

Referring to PT Pelni data, the realization of ticket sales for Pelni passengers to and from Tanjung Priok in the period 11 December 2024 to 8 January 2025 reached 13,425 people, with the most populous route to Makassar, Batam and Belawan.

Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said that the sea transportation sector is still a prima donna for the community, especially when faced with travel costs.

AHY said that although in terms of time it is slower than other modes of transportation, the cost of traveling by sea transportation tends to be more efficient.

Our people still really need sea transportation. So that in the future the number of ships must be even more because to be able to answer the needs of the community and must also be rejuvenated for ships that are of senior age," said AHY.

Furthermore, AHY also emphasized the importance of the ship's safety and security factors, which are followed by comfort, cleanliness, and order.

"Earlier, we checked that all the instruments were still working very well and hopefully the captain and crew could carry out their duties well," he said.
