JAKARTA - Ducati Lenovo racer, Francesco Bagnaia, experienced a miracle at the Catalunya Circuit. He did not suffer fatal injuries after being involved in a horror accident at the Barcelona MotoGP last weekend.

Bagnaia experienced a highside on the first lap, not long after the start. After falling, his right leg was then run over by the motorbike of KTM racer, Brad Binder, who did not have time to dodge.

The race was then stopped and Bagnaia was taken to a medical center. Not long after, the Italian racer was taken to a local hospital.

After undergoing an initial examination, Bagnaia was said to have not suffered any fatal injuries. There were no broken bones suffered by the leader of the 2023 MotoGP rider standings.

"It doesn't seem as serious as expected," Ducati Lenovo chief Davide Tardozzi told Sky Italia.

Ducati later added: "Bagnaia has several bruises, but further medical examination did not reveal any fractures. The reigning World Champion will fly to Italy with the team tonight."

Previously, the initial verdict from MotoGP Medical Director Dr. Angel Charte said that the racer who is familiarly called Pecco suffered from severe polytrauma.

"A motorcycle hit him in the femoral and tibial areas. We have X-rayed these areas and detected a small injury which we don't know if it is recent or old," he said.

"We needed to do a CAT scan urgently and that's why we sent him to the general hospital. On the skull, chest and stomach, he was in normal condition."

"The images we saw were from conventional radiology, so it was difficult to ensure there were no fractures. It was important to do a CAT scan," he continued.

Meanwhile, Ducati Director Paolo Ciabatti told Sky Italia. "They (the medical team) are examining the foot that was run over, he complains of pain in the tailbone, I think because of the highside, which Pecco can't explain."
