Not Only Negotiations, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir To Europe Also To Show Off To FIFA "Garuda Global"

PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir left for Europe to continue negotiations with FIFA so that Indonesia would not receive severe sanctions after canceling hosting the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

The SOE minister, through an upload on Instagram on Monday, April 3, reported that apart from negotiations, he also wanted to show the parent of international football that Indonesia would not be discouraged.

"Tonight I went to Europe for negotiations. We will talk to FIFA, Garuda globally. This is the blue map," he said in the upload.

"Well, this is where I thank Mr. Bas [Basuki Hadimuljono] for coming. So that we can talk about not perceptions. We are talking about the process," added the former Inter Milan President.

Indonesia is still overshadowed by sanctions from FIFA after failing to host it. One of the severe sanctions that can be accepted is being prohibited from participating in various international events at all levels under the auspices of FIFA.

Erick hopes that through this negotiation Indonesia can survive the sanctions in question.

"Bismillah, hopefully Indonesia can get out of the threat of sanctions. I will bring the 'Garuda Global' map to FIFA. Hopefully there will be good news," said Erick.

Indonesia was dropped to host the World Cup on Wednesday, March 29 after a wave of protests against the Israeli national team from various parties grew stronger.

FIFA in its decision did not mention the protest. They only put forward the reason that the deletion was due to the current situation.

In the same statement, the federation led by Gianni Infantino only ensures that it will consider sanctions for Indonesia.

The U-20 World Cup will continue according to schedule from May 20 to June 11. However, the host country that has replaced Indonesia so far has not been appointed by FIFA.
