Xavi Praises Gavi For Impressive Performances In Barcelona's Midfield

JAKARTA – Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez gave sky-high praise to one of his young players, Gavi. The 18-year-old player was considered intense and impressive in guarding the Blaugrana's midfield.

Xavi's praise for Gavi was expressed after Barcelona beat Sevilla 3-0 in the fourth week of La Liga 2022/2023. In the match which took place at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Monday morning WIB, three goals for the visitors were scored by Rapinha (21'), Robert Lewandowski (36') and Eric Garcia (50').

Although Gavi's name is not on the scoreboard, Xavi feels this young player has shown maximum performance in midfield along with his team-mates in the Spanish national team, Sergio Busquets and Pedri. In addition, Gavi's appearance for the fourth time in a row at the start of the season made him listed as a player who regularly starts at Barca.

“This is thanks to hard work, discipline and heart. He (Gavi) was the best player in the game, because of the intensity, the fighting, the passing, the high pressure. He has a heart at his feet," Xavi said, quoted by Football Espana.

Barcelona's victory in the fourth week also made a good record for them. Blaugrana successfully maintain an unbeaten record so far this season is rolling.

Furthermore, Xavi's troops must prepare to appear in the Champions League competition in the middle of next week.

In Europe's elite competition, the Catalan team is scheduled to face Viktoria Plzen on September 7 at their own headquarters, Camp Nou. Gavi is expected to maintain his starting position at Barcelona in the coming weeks, before playing for Spain in the UEFA Nations League at the end of the month against Switzerland and Portugal.
