David Beckham Gives His Instagram Account To A Doctor In Ukraine

JAKARTA - A unique way was used by former Manchester United player, David Beckham, to provide support to a doctor in Ukraine named Irina. He handed over control of his Instagram account to Irina.

Irina is a doctor who helps women give birth in eastern Ukraine, specifically the city of Kharkiv. She is said to be the head of a perinatal center in Kharkiv, a region Russia is currently eyeing.

The submission of Beckham's Instagram account allowed Irina to convey to her 7.16 million followers the former England international to witness the performance of Irina, a pediatric anesthesiologist.

Irina and her team are in the middle of helping residents in the midst of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Through Instagram Stories, Beckham's followers can see how the war has disrupted the performance of Irina and her team.

Irina reportedly posted a video from the basement in which she said pregnant women and mothers were evacuated on the first day of the Russian invasion. He also shared a picture of a newborn baby dependent on an oxygen generator, donated by UNICEF.

"The first days were the most difficult. We had to learn how to deal with bombings and strikes," she said.

"We may be risking our lives, but we don't think about it at all. We love our jobs."

One of Irina's videos shows a woman named Yana holding her baby boy Mykhailo, who was born on the second day of the war with breathing problems. Irina says Mykhailo is better now but the family home has been destroyed.

"Doctors and nurses are here, we are worried, we are crying, but none of us will give up," Irina said as quoted by Reuters, quoted by Antara.

Kharkiv has been hit by a barrage of Russian attacks that have destroyed many buildings since Moscow launched what it called "special operations" in Ukraine last month.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the operation was aimed at disarming Ukraine and rooting out dangerous nationalists. Western countries have called it an aggressive war of choice and have imposed punitive sanctions aimed at crippling Russia's economy.
