MANDALIKA - The 2020 MotoGP race will continue at the Mandalika Circuit, 18-20 March. The riders will compete at the Mandalika MotoGP using Michelin tires, as the sole supplier.

Michelin has prepared 1200 tires for use in the Mandalika MotoGP race. This amount is the same as that prepared by the French manufacturer at the Qatar MotoGP race last weekend.

A total of 30 types are ready to be chosen by the racers. This number is reduced from the previous season, which was 40 types of tires.

This season, Michelin has decided to simplify the choice of tires. The decision to streamline the choice of tires has been through discussions with the drivers and the team.

Michelin Two Wheels Motorsport Manager Piero Taramasso said in a written statement, as reported by Antara, that the Michelin Motorsport technical team worked closely with riders to choose the most multifunctional tires and eliminate tires that were deemed too specific.

"In addition to making it easier for the participating teams to choose the right type of tire, this downsizing will also help reduce the environmental impact because the raw materials used are reduced, the quantity produced also decreases so fewer tires will be stored and recycled after use," said Piero Taramasso.

As for the number, for each circuit that will hold the race, Michelin will provide 1,200 tires. This decision has the support of Dorna Sports. So that the allocation of tires for each racer who will compete will be 28 from the previous 30.

In each race, the drivers will receive 28 tires, consisting of 15 front tires and 13 rear wheels. Riders are only allowed to use a maximum of 10 front tires and 12 rear tires.

Riders are free to compose the composition of the front tire allocation by choosing a maximum of five tires from each soft, medium, and hard specification. For the rear tires, riders can choose a maximum of six soft tires, four medium tires, and three hard tires.

Riders who pass from qualifying rounds one and two will get an additional front tire. They can choose from three available specifications, as well as an additional soft rear tire.

As for the rain tires, the riders will get an allocation of 15 rain tires consisting of seven front tires and eight rear tires.

These tires will be usable during free practice, qualifying, warm-up and main events, with a maximum of six front tires and seven rear tires.
