The Number Of Indonesian Patriots Basketball Team Personnel Affected By COVID-19 Now Becomes 18 People

JAKARTA – The Indonesian Patriots basketball team has not been able to join the quarantine bubble for the second round of the IBL 2022 which has entered its third day. The reason is the number of personnel infected with COVID-19 has increased.

The team was supposed to have a match against NSH Mountain Gold Timika on Sunday, 30 January. However, the match could not be held because as many as seven people on the team tested positive for Corona.

Instead of decreasing, the number of infected people in the team that became the forerunner of the national basketball team is increasing every day. Now a total of 18 people are still testing positive.

"Increased from before to 18 positive people to date", said doctor Panudju from the Royal Sports Medicine Hospital who became IBL's partner, as quoted by the IBL website.

The Patriots players exposed were Aldy Izzatur Rahman, Esha Lapian, Daniel Willian, Valentinus Wongso, Dame Diagne, Adam Faruq, M. Nabizar, Ali Bagir Wayarabi Alhadar, Victory Lobbu, and AA Gede Agung Bagus.

Meanwhile, the non-player personnel who were positive were head coach Milos Pejic, assistant coach Roland Robinson, assistant coach Ricky Gunawan, team manager Jamin Matotoran, Official Team Rony Rahmat, Guntur, and Renny.

However, Serigne Modou Kane has already tested negative in the latest retest. Thus, there are still 17 other people whose progress still needs to be monitored.

The addition of this case has prevented the Indonesia Patriots from entering the quarantine bubble in the second series in Bandung. They can only enter the bubble and are allowed to compete after all personnel is declared healthy.

The infected personnel is currently in self-isolation. Their condition will continue to be monitored by the medical team regularly.

“They are all in good condition. Isolation is a procedure that was prepared to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus", said Panudju.

The second series of the IBL this season has been plagued by COVID-19 since the first day of the match. The duel between Satria Muda Pertamina against Evos Thunder Bogor had to be postponed, followed by the postponement of two other matches on the second day.

However, Satria Muda has returned to compete on Monday, January 31. They managed to beat Amartha Hangtuah Jakarta with a final score of 85-67.
