KPU: The Cost Of The 2024 Pilkada Is Sourced From Each Regional Budget

PAPUA - The General Election Commission (KPU) of Papua stated that the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) costs are in their respective regional Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budgets (APBD).

This provision is contained in the circular letter of the Minister of Home Affairs Number: 900/2677/SJ regarding grant funds and regional assistance in the 2024 Pilkada.

"With this basis, the costs of the Pilkada are in their respective APBDs, both at the provincial and district/city levels," said Papuan KPU Chairman Stevenapun in Sentani, Thursday, November 2, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, local governments are required to pay for the implementation of the Pilkada in September 2024.

"Until now, there have been many obstacles faced by KPUD friends in the regions, including us in the province," he said.

Steve explained that the KPU averaged a budget plan for the 2024 Pilkada had been carried out in January-February 2023 in both provinces and districts/cities.

"So far, communication between the KPU and local governments has been slightly cut off due to the regional election budget, so try to rebuild the communication with the regional government TAPD, including in the provinces," he said.

He added that after a political decision was made in August 2023, the Pilkada was passed from November 27 to September 2024.

"We don't know the date yet, but automatically if the Pilkada is in September, the previous 10 months the stages regarding the election must run and 40 percent of the funds submitted by the KPU according to the circular letter of the Minister of Home Affairs Number: 900/2677/SJ must be given by the local government he said.

So, said Steve, the granting of funds should have been given at the end of October 2023 so that the Provincial and Regency/City KPUs could already carry out the stages.

The number of Lists of Permanent Voters (DPT) in Papua is 727,835 people and will vote at 3,109 polling stations in nine regencies/cities, namely Jayapura City, Keerom Regency, Sarmi, Jayapura, Mamberamo Raya, Biak Numfor, Supiori, Waropen, Yapen Islands.
