JAKARTA - Palestinian envoy to the United Nations Riyad Mansour urged the Security Council (DK PBB) to issue a resolution calling for a ceasefire to end the bloodshed in Gaza.

As reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 31, during the UN Security Council meeting in New York, Mansour asked the council to follow the steps of the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution based on humanity, morality, legality, rejection of double standards, calling for an immediate, long-lasting and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire.

The Palestinian status at the United Nations is a non-member observer state. The status given by the UN General Assembly in 2012 gave the Palestinians the right to speak at the General Assembly and to participate in UN committees.

However, Palestine has no right to vote or veto on the UN Security Council.

Mansour further said that humanitarian agencies had acted in response to the crisis in Gaza.

"However, there is one important institution that has yet to act: it is you (the UN Security Council)," he said, quoted from the UN's official website.

He said a ceasefire must take place immediately, and stressed that UN DK must uphold its responsibility to end the bloodshed.

"Other mothers are in danger," he said.

He also asked the ambassadors to realize a two-state solution, and end Israel's occupation of Palestine.

“Setiap menit berarti. Setiap menit adalah perbedaan antara hidup dan mati bagi warga Palestina di Gaza," lanjutnya.

"Do what a larger body should do," he said, referring to the results of the non-binding vote at the General Assembly on Friday last week demanding a ceasefire.

Since the October 7, 2023 attacks, the UN Security Council has failed to produce a resolution on the Israeli-Palestinian crisis.

There were four draft resolutions proposed, but failed to be adopted due to veto of a number of permanent members of the council, consisting of the United States, France, Britain, China, and Russia.

The draft resolution proposed by the US on the humanitarian jeda failed to be passed due to the diveto of China and Russia, while the Russian draft of humanitarian ceasefire' cannot be adopted due to lack of votes in favor. Britain and the US veto this draft Russian proposal.
