Jokowi Proposes General Agus Subiyanto To Be A Candidate For TNI Commander

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, stated that her party had received a presidential letter (Surpres) from President Joko Widodo regarding the proposed name of the candidate for TNI commander in chief to replace Admiral Yudo Margono who will enter retirement at the end of November. "The DPR leadership has received a Surpres from the President regarding the proposal to replace the candidate for TNI commander proposed by the President, in which the TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono will enter a retirement period in accordance with his rules, namely on November 26, according to his birthday," said Puan at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 31. Puan explained, in accordance with the TNI Law, the President must propose a candidate to replace the TNI Commander to the DPR outside of the recess. The mechanism will run for approximately 20 days since the surpres was received by the DPR leadership.

"Because we have received the presidential decree and will implement the mechanism in accordance with what is in the DPR, to then forward the proposal for a replacement name for the next TNI commander according to the mechanism in the DPR," explained Puan.

Puan then announced the name of the candidate for TNI commander proposed by President Jokowi. Namely, Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Agus Subiyanto who had just been inaugurated by President Jokowi.

"On this occasion, I will announce the replacement candidate for the TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono. The name proposed by the President is TNI General Agus Subiyanto SE, MSI, who currently serves as Army Chief of Staff," said Puan.

In accordance with existing mechanisms, continued Puan, the DPR will start the mechanism process to be able to follow up on the proposal letter to replace the commander-in-chief candidate. In accordance with the existing rules and mechanisms in the DPR.

"Hopefully this process can run smoothly and well, so that the next TNI commander can run well and there will be no vacancy for the TNI commander to come," said Puan. Furthermore, the candidate for TNI commander will undergo a fit and proper test at Commission I of the DPR.
