KPU Invites Political Parties to Discuss Registration of Presidential/Vice Presidential Candidates Tomorrow

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) will invite 17 political parties participating in the election to discuss the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates on Thursday (12/10) afternoon.

"On October 12, there was a coordination meeting with political parties as described in Article 222 of Law Number 7 of 2017 at 13.00 WIB at the Indonesian KPU," said KPU member Idham Holik, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 11.

Meanwhile, Article 222 of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Election) states that candidate pairs are proposed by political parties or combinations of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the number of DPR seats or obtaining 25 percent of the valid votes nationally. in the previous DPR member elections.

The KPU is currently preparing to accept registrations for presidential/vice presidential candidate pairs from 19 to 25 October 2023.

The KPU will also coordinate with the Ministry of Health, police, district courts, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to prepare for registration of prospective presidential/vice presidential candidates.

Idham Holik explained that Article 169 letter (q) of Law Number 7 of 2017 was the KPU's reference when carrying out legal drafting. The reason is that the minimum age limit for presidential/vice presidential candidates is 40 years.

However, currently the KPU regulations regarding the registration of presidential/cawapres candidates are still being promulgated.

Idham said that the PKPU would be published in the near future.

"The KPU has submitted a request to promulgate the PKPU Draft concerning Registration of Participants in the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," he concluded.
