Mahfud MD: My 'ngguping' Result To The KPK, Cak Imin According To Logic Is Impossible To Be A Suspect

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) could not be a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the Indonesian labor protection system (TKI) at the 2012 Ministry of Manpower which was being handled by the KPK.

"To my knowledge and the results of my 'nguping' to the KPK, that's Cak Imin has only been a witness and according to my logic, it seems impossible to be a suspect," Mahfud said in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 3.

Mahfud explained, according to legal logic in corruption cases, leaders should be the first people to be named suspects.

Meanwhile, in the alleged corruption case at the Ministry of Manpower, the KPK has named three people as suspects consisting of one state civil servant (ASN) and two private parties and Cak Imin as Minister of Manpower for the 2009-2014 period only being summoned as witnesses by the KPK.

"My legal logic says it doesn't seem like Cak Imin is a suspect. In the case where there are now three suspects, he said, the period of the suspect is just a follow-up. The highest leader should be the suspect first in that logic," he said.

Mahfud also emphasized that he would not interfere in the investigation of the anti-corruption agency related to corruption at the Ministry of Manpower in 2012.

"KPK has its own business, I can't interfere either. For what reason? Because the KPK is a group of institutions in the executive but not part of the cabinet, the KPK is not a legislative institution, not a judicial institution but he is only in the executive family, not part of the cabinet. He is like Komnas HAM, LPSK and others that are not part of the cabinet," said Mahfud.

The KPK has so far named three people as suspects in the investigation of the alleged corruption case in the procurement of the TKI protection system at the Ministry of Manpower in 2012. The three suspects consisted of two state civil servants (ASN) and a private party.

The KPK suspects that there have been state losses caused by the alleged corruption case, as regulated in Article 2 or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001.

KPK investigators also conducted a search at the Ministry of Manpower Office on August 18, 2023. However, the KPK has not provided more detailed information regarding the findings of the investigation team during the search.

In investigating the case, the KPK also examined the Minister of Manpower for the 2009-2014 period Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin as a witness to alleged corruption in the procurement of the Indonesian labor protection system at the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) in 2012.

Cak Imin said he supported the KPK in completing the investigation of the alleged corruption case.

"Today I am helping the KPK to complete the settlement of corruption cases at the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration in 2012, in this case there is an Indonesian labor protection program abroad," said Cak Imin at the KPK's Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Thursday (7/9).

Cak Imin was examined for about 5 hours by investigators from the anti-corruption agency as a witness in the case. Cak Imin arrived at the KPK's Red and White Building, South Jakarta, at around 10:55 WIB and finished being questioned at 15.06 WIB.

The deputy chairman of the DPR hopes that his visit to the KPK office to provide information as a witness can make the KPK immediately resolve the case.

"Hopefully with this explanation, the KPK will run smoothly and quickly resolve all corruption cases," he said.
