The Jakarta Special Region Bill Is Targeted To Be Completed By The End Of This Year

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said that the Draft Law (RUU) for the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) is targeted to be discussed by the government and the DPR by the end of this year.

"Yesterday at the meeting at the President, he said in December, yes. But we submitted the mechanism. Right, that was a trick from the Minister of Home Affairs," Heru told reporters, Friday, September 22.

The DKJ Bill, if later ratified, replaces Law (UU) Number 29 of 2007 concerning the Provincial Government of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta as the Capital City of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia in connection with the transfer of the state capital (IKN) to the archipelago, East Kalimantan.

In a meeting of the DKJ Bill chaired by President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace, Tuesday, September 12, the name DKI Jakarta will be changed to DKJ after the capital city officially moves to the archipelago.

The name change as stated in Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the State Capital (IKN), which when referring to the Law, Jakarta's status will change from what was previously DKI to DKI.

In the DKJ Bill, the government also plans to form a Regional Council for the agglomeration areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Puncak, and Cianjur (Jabodetabekpunjur).

Heru explained that the Regional Council, which will be led by the Vice President, is tasked with synergizing development in the agglomeration area.

"He said the Vice President was to synergize the construction of Jabodetabek. We have to synergize the development of the Puncak and Cianjur areas. There are many," said Heru.

However, Heru emphasized that district/city governments that are included in the realm of the Regional Council still have their respective regional autonomy.

"Still they are like the current government. However, later if there is a development of connectivity related to transportation, related to water needs, and others, it may also be like pollution. Now, let the Vice President coordinate the synergy," he added.
