JAKARTA - The small charcoal batok manufacturing industry in Lubang Buaya Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, has 12 workers who only depend on making charcoal batok.

The emergence of government policies related to the closure of charcoal-making businesses has made workers inflamed.

"It is very heavy (for the attitude of the East Jakarta City Government), they make a living for their wives and families. Now they want to close, compensation is not appropriate," said Dian, as the land owner and manager of charcoal burning to VOI, Thursday, August 31.

Dian admitted that his party produces charcoal every two days. Once produced, they can only produce 30 sacks.

"Once produced 30 sacks per 2 days. We burn once every 2 days, not every day. So it's not every day burned," he said.

Before the place of business was closed by the East Jakarta City Government, Dian admitted that he had never received a warning letter or notification letter from the local sub-district.

"They came suddenly and asked to be closed. There was no previous notification letter," he regretted.

His party during the closure was only given a compensation fee of Rp. 4.2 million for 1 week and divided into 12 charcoal workers.

"From 4.2 million we divided 12 people, for example, that much money is not much. If for a week it doesn't matter, we have given in. But where do we want to eat to continue there? If there is no business (fare making) anymore," asked Dian.

Dian also challenges if the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is willing to bear the living costs of charcoal-making workers using ASN work allowances, maybe his party can close the place of business.

"Inevitably, officials will cut their TKDs to pay their children (employees of charcoal). Officials should not only look for safety for them themselves, while the little people are sacrificed. What is the solution, when they are told to close, people want to go hungry, they don't eat. Later, if they commit crimes, rob, rob or another, who wants to be responsible? Finally, new problems arise," he complained to the government.

"I strongly reject if I don't give a solution, the East Jakarta City Government must have a solution, don't cause new problems. I am undergoing this activity to open up jobs," he said.

Seen at the location of charcoal making, managers and employees put up banners that read "Mr. President Jokowi Help Us!! Small People Who Need To Eat Nafkah, Wife's Child".
