Dozens Of Women Forced To Become Prostitutes In Gang Royal, DKI Provincial Government Asked To Watch TIP-Prone Business

JAKARTA - There was a criminal case of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in Gang Royal, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, where dozens of women were forced to become commercial sex workers (PSK) and song guides.

Deputy for Women's Rights Protection of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA), Ratna Susianawati, has a local government, especially the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, in this case to observe and regulate business under the guise of TIP.

"Based on the repetition of the TIP case in Gang Royal, I hope that the wider community starting from families, neighborhood units (RT), neighborhood units (RW), villages/kelurahan, districts/cities, local governments, provinces, central, and especially the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Trafficking in Persons to be more serious and contribute to efforts to prevent and handle TIPs," Ratna said in her statement, quoted on Monday, August 21.

Ratna said that the TIP case was a complex and syndicate-based case so that the handling needed seriousness and sustainability involving various parties. Jakarta, he continued, is the largest city in Indonesia that is most prone to TIP.

"As we all know, TIP is vulnerable to women, especially in big cities such as Jakarta, which has its own charm for the community to improve its economic level," said Ratna.

Ratna explained that the TIP syndicate was able to lure the victims, the majority of whom were women with various modes being carried out, such as the lure of large-paid jobs through a recruitment process that was so simple and easy.

"Even TIP syndicates have now used social media as one of the recruitment media that is easy to reach all levels of society," he said.

In this regard, Ratna said that her party would coordinate intensely and sustainably to continue to monitor the development of this case as a form of fulfilling the rights of victims of the TIP case in Gang Royal.

For information, as many as 30 women became victims of TIP in Gang Royal. The perpetrator promised a job offer at a beauty clinic. However, it turned out that they were forced to become prostitutes and song guides.
