JAKARTA - Reportedly 12 people were missing due to landslides triggered by rain in an Indian state in the Himalayan state, the local government said.

The landslide hit Grab Kund in Rudradaprayag in the state of Uttrakhand on Thursday night (3/8) on the way to the Hindu temple of Kedarnath.

"There are 13-14 reports of missing people. Rescue operations are underway and so far we have not found them. This operation is ongoing," Rudradaprayag District Police Chief Vishakha Ashok told Anadolu as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 4.

He revealed that the area was also rained heavily.

Nandan Singh Rajwar, a disaster management official in the district, told Anadolu that the landslide occurred late Thursday. "Some of the shops in the are were also damaged," he said.

Pushkar Singh Dhimi, chairman of the Uttarakhand minister, said that due to heavy rains, landslides caused loss of life and property intipkund.

"The disaster management team and local governments are fully involved in recovery and rescue efforts. The government is entirely together with disaster victims," he wrote on platform X, previously called Twitter.
