Become A Suspect Of Alleged Blasphemy, Panji Gumilang Against Proposing Pretrial

The National Police Bareskrin has named Panji Gumilang as a suspect in the alleged blasphemy case. The camp from the head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School will take legal action by filing a pretrial lawsuit.

"The legal process must be carried out, the determination of the suspect is still a pretrial effort," said Panji Gumilang's attorney, M. Ali Syaifudin when confirmed, Wednesday, August 2.

The pretrial lawsuit is a legal step that can be taken by litigants. The process will take place at the District Court.

Later, the District Court will examine and decide whether or not an arrest is legal or not.

However, Ali did not explain in detail the time for filing the pretrial lawsuit.

Instead, he also mentioned that he submitted a request for a suspension if later investigators decided to detain Panji Gumilang.

"(Adjutant) to postpone detention," said Ali.

Panji Gumilang was originally temporarily kept in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro said the reason behind it was because the investigation process as a suspect had not been completed and would be continued this afternoon.

"Last night at 01.00 PG asked for the examination to be stopped first and the person concerned asked for further examination this afternoon," said Djuhandani.

In this case, Panji Gumilang is suspected of having multiple articles. First, Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law number 1 of 1946 concerning criminal law regulations which carries a penalty of 10 years in prison.

Then, Article 45A paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law no. 19 of 2016 concerning amendments and Law number 11 of 2008 concerning ITE with a threat of 6 years in prison.

Finally, Panji Gumilang was also charged with Article 156 A of the Criminal Code. In this article, the penalty is 5 years in prison.
