Cianjur Police Unload TIP, 15 Victims Promised Large Salaries In The Middle East

The Cianjur Resort Police, West Java, arrested eight suspects in a criminal case of trafficking in persons (TPPO) with 15 victims as well as suspects related to the TIP case that occurred in the jurisdiction of the Bandung Police.

Cianjur Police Chief AKBP Aszhari Kurniawan, said the evidence was also successfully secured including passports, documents for prospective migrant workers, plane tickets, ID cards on behalf of prospective migrant workers and several cellular phone units.

"Eight suspects who are residents of a number of sub-districts in Cianjur, have recruited prospective migrant workers who have been dispatched to a number of prohibited countries using tourist documents," Aszhari said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 27.

The eight suspects are AB (50) waga, Cibeber District, US (37) a resident of Cilaku District, IS a resident of Karangtengah District, YN (54) a resident of Sukaluyu District, AD (37) a resident of Mande District, FR a resident of Baros District, Sukabumi Regency, DP a resident of Caringin and SA a resident of Pacet District.

The Cianjur Police Chief explained that the suspect's modus operandi was to recruit, transport, and shelter and process the departure of prospective migrant workers abroad non-procedureally or not through the registration process to the Cianjur Manpower and Transmigration Office.

There have been several people who managed to return to their homeland because the suspect's promise was not appropriate, starting from the placement and salary they received. We ask residents who are interested in working abroad to take an official route," he said.

Aszhari added that the suspect will be charged with Article 4 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) with a maximum imprisonment of 15 years and a minimum of 3 years and a fine of Rp. 600 million.

"We will continue to urge residents through Bhabinkamtibmas not to be consumed by persuasion or sponsors who can send work abroad easily with large salaries but high risk because they leave non-procedurally," he said.
