Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Anis Hidayah said that government officials or law enforcement officers involved in cases of criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) must be dealt with firmly.
"Law enforcement officers must take firm action against government officials, law enforcement officers involved in conspiracy, collaborative work with TIP syndicates to get profits," Anis said in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 21, as reported by Antara.
Anis conveyed this in response to the presence of unscrupulous Makassar Immigration employees, South Sulawesi (Sulsel) who were involved in the TIP case were arrested by members of the South Sulawesi Regional Police.
Anis said that government officials and law enforcement officers involved in the TTPO were punished with heavier sentences than other perpetrators.
This has been regulated in Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of TIPs as a deterrent effect of their actions.
"In the TIP Law, government officials and law enforcement officers who are involved and proven to be TIP actors, the sentence is increased by a third plus their position is removed," Anis added.
He added that the Immigration Department must conduct an evaluation to prevent the same incident from happening again.
Anis also hopes that the TIP Task Force that has been formed by the government can optimize the prevention of TIPs that are rampant in various regions.
"I hope that with the restructuring of the new task force, Immigration will also be part of one of the parties being evaluated, to what extent is its involvement in this trans-organized crime activity," he said.
